Privacy Policy
Welcome to Netflix Dual & Spoken Subtitles, a Chrome extension that shows two subtitle languages at once on Netflix and can read one of them aloud. It is developed and operated by Bilingual Audio Books Company Limited. This Privacy Policy explains what the extension does with your data. By using it, you agree to this policy.
The extension is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Netflix, Inc.
Information Collection and Use: The extension has no server of its own and does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information to us. It does not use analytics, tracking, advertising, or crash reporting. You do not need an account to use it.
Data Stored on Your Device: Your settings (chosen subtitle languages, subtitle style, read-aloud and dialogue-filter options) are saved with Chrome's synced storage so they follow your Chrome profile. If you enter an OpenRouter or OpenAI API key, it is saved in Chrome's local storage only: it is never synced, never sent to us, and only ever sent to the provider it belongs to. Uninstalling the extension removes all of this.
Netflix: The extension reads the subtitle tracks that Netflix's own player already loads for the video you are watching, and asks the player for one extra text format so the tracks can be displayed. Nothing else is changed in your Netflix account or traffic.
Third-Party Text-to-Speech (optional): With the default "Browser" voice nothing leaves your computer. If you choose the OpenRouter or OpenAI engine, each subtitle line to be spoken is sent, together with your own API key, to that provider's text-to-speech endpoint, and the returned audio is played back. This happens only for the language you chose to hear and only while a video is playing. The provider's own privacy policy applies to those requests: OpenRouter, OpenAI.
Tab Audio Capture (optional): The Dialogue filter captures the audio of the Netflix tab so that it can lower the original dialogue while a translated line is spoken. The audio is processed in real time inside the extension and played straight back. It is never recorded, saved, or sent anywhere. Capture starts only after you open the extension's popup on a Netflix tab with the filter switched on, and stops when the tab is closed.
Permissions: storage saves your settings and, if you use one, your API key. activeTab lets the popup act on the Netflix tab it was opened on. tabCapture and offscreen capture and play back the tab's audio for the dialogue filter and play AI voices outside the Netflix page. Access to netflix.com shows the subtitle overlay on video pages. Access to openrouter.ai and api.openai.com calls the text-to-speech provider you chose with your own key.
Cookies: The extension does not set or read cookies and does not track your browsing.
Security: We take commercially reasonable precautions to protect your data, but no method of electronic storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Keep your API keys private and revoke them at the provider if you believe they were exposed.
Children's Privacy: We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The extension collects no personal information from anyone.
Changes to This Privacy Policy: We may update this policy from time to time. Changes are effective as soon as they are posted on this page, with the date above updated.
Terms of Use
By installing or using Netflix Dual & Spoken Subtitles, you agree to these terms.
Requirements: The extension needs Google Chrome or a compatible browser and an active Netflix subscription. It only shows the subtitle languages Netflix makes available for a given title. Netflix may change its player at any time, which can stop the extension from working until it is updated.
AI Voices and Costs: The built-in browser voice is free. AI voices through OpenRouter or OpenAI are optional and billed by that provider under your own account and key. The price and usage estimates shown in the extension are indicative only; the provider's invoice is what counts. We are not responsible for any charges incurred with your key.
Personal Use: The extension is for personal, non-commercial use. You may not redistribute subtitle text, generated audio, or any other content obtained through the extension in a way that breaches Netflix's or the voice provider's terms.
No Warranty: The extension is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. Bilingual Audio Books Company Limited is not liable for any loss of data, interruption of service, or other damage arising from its use.
Changes to These Terms: We reserve the right to update the extension and these terms at any time. Any changes will be effective immediately upon posting here.
